China's Software Industry Exceeds India and Korea

According to the spokesman of the Ministry of Information Industry (MII), the scale of China's software industry reached 230 billion RMB in 2004, 2.8 times to the one of five years ago, and beyond India and Korea.

The deputy president, Ding Wenwu, of MII's Department of Electronics and Information Product Administration said on the press conference about the Int'l Soft China 2005 that China's strategic industry is software which is the core of the information industry with great development priority. Since the related industrial policies had been implemented, the software industry's core competitiveness has become increasingly stronger. The software exports rose from 400 million USD in 2000 to 2.8 billion USD in 2004, up six times in five years.

Five years ago, China's State Council decreed the policies to encourage the development of the software industry, which is known as the No.18 paper to serve as an active guidelines for the development of the sector. During the past five years, billions of investment had been put in finance, taxation, industrial technology, export, income and allocation, professional training, purchase and protection of intellectual property rights in order to promote the development of the software and integrated circuit industries.

China has established 11 national software industry bases, six national software export bases and 172 national key software enterprises, which show that China's software industry already has its own rudimental form.
