MES Structural Overview of MES
We'd like to provide a more in-depth analysis of the applications framework of MES, showing the various functions/features. The diagram shows the application suites, which are involved in a MES system and how they are intertwined and supported by various functions. The following structural overview is an example of a MES as how we see it for possible development based on the project experience and knowledge we have gained so far. This will not be an in-house MES product, but is meant to show our understanding of it.

• MES Application Suites
According to our view MES is a fully configurable system, using web and wireless mobile technologies, providing several applications that are grouped by three major Application Suites in our structural overview. These are more focused on the major areas of the pharmaceutical factory:
• Automation Extension
• Execution Management
• SOP Process Control
Automation Extension Suite is an application suite which extends information process functionalities for automation systems. Its purpose is to provide management level organized and real-time data from manufacturing process to facilitate and ease the tracking of production. Plant level Managers could use the Device Control systems information to know the status of automation system remotely by real-time via internet/intranet, monitoring and tracking the alert process.
• Execution Management
Automation Extension Suite is an application suite which extends information process functionalities for automation systems. Its purpose is to provide management level organized and real-time data from manufacturing process to facilitate and ease the tracking of production. • SOP Process Control
SOP Process Control is an application tool suite for handling the Standard Operation Procedure (SOP) for document versions, processes, authority and security which is required to comply with FDA regulations. The suite is for reducing human error, improving the documenting efficiency and security.

Automation extension
Batch Report System
The purpose of the Batch Report System is to collect batch data and generate user-defined batch reports. Its purpose is to pull batch data from legacy automation systems and devices, create configurable batch reports for printing, analysis and backup.
Automation Virtual Monitor Centre
Automation Virtual Monitor Centre is a virtual monitor dashboard system to remotely monitor real-time manufacturing data via internet/intranet. Its purpose is to provide a monitoring interface for both plant-level engineers and management-level supervisors.
Alert Management System
Alert Management System is a workflow tool to manage alerts from different automation systems. Its purpose is to retrieve real-time alarm messages from different automation systems and instantly notify the responsible people via pager/SMS/email, and track settlement for alerted problems.
Execution management
Plant-level Equipment/Material Order Centre
The web based virtual plant-level support centre as a virtual platform connects all production lines & areas and support areas, receives orders from production departments, dispatches tasks to support areas, coordinates work loads for each support area and monitors and manages detailed assembling processes and inventory. It makes each support area work as efficient as possible and provides better service for production lines & areas.
Support Area Execution System
The plant-level execution system for management is the execution of equipment washing, assembly, sterilizing and etc for the plant-level support area. The support area manager could get all the real-time status for incoming orders, WIP, and inventory info online. The system supports configurable multi sub group WIP for classified equipment.
Inventory Management System
Inventory Management System is a fully configurable management tool for providing fixable inventory tracking and management. Using Barcode/RFID and wireless mobile technologies for easy check in and check out. It supports set point & refresh point alert and customized inventory reports.
Equipment lifecycle tracking
Equipment tracking system for full lifecycle tracking of essential equipment.
Business Report System
The reporting system for analysis of business information and generating business reports.
SOP Process Control
Automation Change Management System
Automation Change Management system is a workflow enabled document process system for tracking and driving the process of automation change control.
E-Logging System
E-Logging system is a web based tools for providing electronic logging and tracking.
